Shared Garbage Facilities

Recyling procedures

Please be neighborly and don’t fill our garbage and recycling facility with more than your share of household waste. The shared 90-gallon garbage roll carts can accommodate no more than 2 – 10 gallon trash bags per unit per week. Do the math: We have 2 – 90 gallon trash cans for the 13 units on the north side and 2 – 90 gallon cans for the 10 units on the south side, with pickup once a week. What residents pay for garbage handling covers only their share of these common facilities.

Please follow these guidelines for disposing of recycling and trash.

— If you are moving in or moving out, don’t contribute more than your share of trash (i.e., 2 – 10 gallon bags). Filling the garbage containers with your moving trash means there isn’t enough space for other residents’ trash before the next pickup, and waste accumulates outside the cans for the remainder of the week. The garbage hauler takes only the roll carts, not bags of garbage lying on the ground.

— Cardboard boxes set out for recycling must be broken down into pieces that fit in the recycling bins. If the recycling hauler does not take the cardboard you placed in the garbage enclosure, you are responsible for removing it.

— Place recyclables in the recycling bin, not the garbage roll carts.

— Do not contaminate the recycling or yard waste bins with regular household trash.

— You’re responsible for disposing of any trash or recycling that is in excess of the ordinary amount, somewhere other than Hastings Green. Don’t take your excess trash to fill the cans on the other side of the Cottages at Hastings Green complex. You can bring excess trash, recycling, hazardous waste or organics to Metro South at 2001 Washington St., Oregon City or to Metro Central at 6161 NW 61st Ave., Portland. Or, contact Portland Disposal to arrange to pay for a personal pick-up.

— Do *not* place any form of styrofoam (peanuts, blocks) in the recycling, yard waste containers or the trash. They leach toxic material and must be disposed of properly. The Winter 2013 CHG newsletter at https://hastingsgreen.net/residents/admin/files/06114026.pdf also has detailed information about recyclables and how to dispose of them.

— Do not dispose of trash at the contractor’s debris collection site in front of the south side garages. It’s temporary, and is not suited for household trash.

Homeowners that are renting their units should be sure their renters are aware of these guidelines.
